Just how fair is Scotland's media? And, if it's unfair, how do we fix that?

Our panel discuss the current state of affairs in Scotland, and the opportunities that Scottish independence would bring. Joining host Drew Hendry MP are Linda Graham, owner and founder of Broadcasting Scotland, Ruth Watson from the National Yes Network, and Jack Paterson, founder of the SNP's Independence Magazine.

From Broadcast media to the press, it's quite clear that coverage of the issue of Scottish independence hasn't been completely fair and balanced since the vote in 2014. So, why is this? What, if any, solutions are there?

Citizens journals and broadcasting are becoming more common and more popular, but are they sustainable? Linda explains some of the difficulties with funding, but also some of the incredible opportunities to deliver compelling and fair content.

Ruth explains how the National Yes Network is bringing together Yes groups from around the country and creating a network for sharing valuable information and assets.

And Jack outlines why he started the Independence Magazine, a publication which has grown to become a product of the highest quality in the space.

All of the the above and more on Episode 54 of Scotland's Choice.

Gordon set up Business for Scotland in 2011 and now has 4,000 associated members. They describe themselves as "an agenda setting, independent and political party neutral business network and business policy think tank."

A key argument in the referendum campaign will be rejoining the EU. Regular listeners of the Scotland's Choice podcast will have heard Drew discuss this with a variety of guests, but with such a large number of businesses being represented by Gordon, he was keen to get his unique insight into how it's affecting them.

As well as founding Business for Scotland, Gordon more recently founded Believe in Scotland. It aims to present the facts in a clear way to folk who dislike some of the 'big P' politics on display in these sorts of campaigns (their resources are great - definitely check them out!). In light of that, Drew was keen to see how Gordon thought the arguments have changed since 2014 and why the case for Scottish independence is stronger than ever.

Thanks very much for coming on, Gordon, we'll hopefully catch up with you again over the next year!

Fine Gael TD (that's a Teachta Dála - a member of the Irish Parliament) Neale Richmond is Drew's guest on Scotland's Choice this week to provide a view from Ireland.

Having international guests on the podcast has been an ambition of ours for a while now - we want views from around Europe, and possibly even beyond, as to why they think Scotland would flourish as an independent country. After all, as the First Minister said as she launched the first prospectus paper, "why not Scotland?"

Neale, like Drew, has long been a critic of Brexit and the economic damage it has unleashed on the UK. But one thing listeners in Scotland may not be too familiar with is how it's changed the relationship between the UK and Irish governments. Neale discusses this along with similarities between the Scottish independence movement and the reunification movement in Ireland, the current state of affairs in Westminster, the currency question and much more.

Thanks very much to Neale for coming on the Scotland's Choice podcast, you can find him on Twitter here.

This special edition of the Scotland's Choice Podcast was recorded in front of a live audience at the Aberdeen Independence Movement's (AIM) conference in Aberdeen. It's the first-ever live recording Scotland's Choice has done and we really enjoyed it - let us know if you'd like to hear more like this!

Joining Drew on the panel are friends of the podcast, Stephen Gethins and Stewart Hosie MP - both back for their second time. Joining them is Scotland's Choice first-timer, folk singer and activist Iona Fyfe.

The conference, organised by volunteers was a huge success and acted as a kickstart to the grassroots campaign with delegates attending from all over the country and beyond. It's so important that these non/all party events are supported properly as, as we all know, the independence movement is bigger than any one person or party and we must all have cohesive arguments.

Topics the panel discuss include an independent Scotland's constitution, rejoining the EU, online social media trolls, and how we engage with voters who aren't yet on board. And, of course, much more.

Mark has extensive experience in the polling industry and is currently working towards his PhD at the University of Glasgow, researching secessionist movements from around the world. He explains how certain issues have shifted opinions since the 2014 referendum, and offers plenty of insight into how to make sense of all the polling data.

There is also a cautionary tale from Quebec - that movement narrowly missed out on independence and became fractured, its important we don't allow the same to happen here in Scotland. The polling results over the last couple of years seem to suggest a sustained appetite for independence and a vote so Mark makes the point that it's important to strike while the iron is hot.

With Toni Giuliano. Scotland voted overwhelmingly against Brexit. All 32 local authorities voted to remain in the European Union and every poll since has shown this number only increases. Yet, we are having to ensure the fallout of a Tory Brexit with its empty Global Britain rhetoric.

The UK’s exit from the EU has made the case for independence and Westminster continues to make the case on a daily basis.

In this week’s Scotland’s Choice, Drew sits down with SNP Policy Development Convenor, Toni Giuliano to discuss the current state of affairs and how as an independent nation, we can forge a different path – one that sees Scotland seeking accession to the EU.

From discussing the benefits of joining the EU to potential routes available for accession, Drew and Toni cover an array of topics around Scotland’s relationship with the EU. The two also discuss the arguments used against Scotland re-joining the EU and discuss the many benefits of Scotland having a voice in the EU.

Opposition parties can often be heard saying, ‘why leave one union to join another'. Tune in to hear Toni’s thoughts on why the two unions are not comparable and how Scotland can forge its path to becoming a member state of the European Union as an Independent Nation.

Cost of Living Crisis with David Linden MP & Councillor Jen Layden.

The Office for National Statistics recently reported those earning below the UK average wage will pay up to an extra £255 per year, with the forthcoming Tory national insurance hike.

The lowest earners have seen their universal credit cut by £20 a week by the Tories, all while they were trying to grapple with inflation running at over five per cent and climbing. For example, foods such as rice have shot up over three hundred per cent in cost.

To exacerbate the issue further, national rises in electricity and gas costs will send family bills skyward, with average households facing another £800 a year in energy costs. If that sounds bad, spare a thought for those living in rural areas or not connected to gas mains and reliant on electricity or fuel as heating oil. Their costs will be three or four times that amount.

And families are dealing with all this while feeling the Brexit bite, low wages and spiralling costs.

In this episode Drew talks to David Linden MP and Councillor Jen Layden about the cost of living crisis and the impact Westminster policy has on Scottish families.

David and Jen share their thoughts on how things could be done differently in an Independent Scotland.

What better way to celebrate International Women's Day (8th of March 2022) than to hear from three talented and inspiring activists in the Independence movement.

In this episode Drew is joined by independence campaigners and women's rights champions Sue Lyons, Sally Donald and Charlotte Armitage.

We hear from all three on why International Women's Day is such an important day to them and find out their thoughts on the challenges women still face in the workplace, politics and in society.

This special International Women's Day episode is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women to our movement, our communities and our society - but also to keep shining a light on the many biases women face day in day out.

Some key stats from this episode:

50% of women are in entry-level jobs but that reduces to 22% as they go up the ladder

The World Economic Forum Gender Gap Report estimates that on the current trajectory, it will now take 135.6 years to close the gender gap worldwide.

It also reports that it will take 145.5 years to attain gender parity in politics and women represent only 26.1% of some 35,500 parliament seats.

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

"IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific."

Few sectors have been harder hit by Brexit than agriculture and farming.

Drew sits down with Fergus Ewing MSP and Emma Harper MSP to talk about Westminster's role in the fate of rural economies and the farming community on this week's podcast.

Scotland's farmers and crofters are having to deal with the impacts of labour shortages, barriers to trade and supply chain issues resulting from Brexit. To make matters worse, they know much more pain is just around the corner as the tories continue to cobble together concerning trade deals – not to mention the Internal Market Bill, which threatens Scotland's high-quality producers.

Both Fergus and Emma's passion for the sector and deep understanding of the issues farmers and crofters face is evident throughout the conversation making it a must-listen!

Both Emma and Fergus talk about the opportunities for the sector in an independent Scotland, along with changing attitudes within the farming community.

Over the years, Devolution Max - a full fiscal autonomy alternative to Independence has been floated by many a unionist. Unsurprisingly, their Devo Max musings always seem to coincide with growing support in the polls for Scottish Independence.

Like clockwork, when there is a rise in the polls for support for Independence, devo max is touted by union supporters.

Devo Max doesn't reflect our nation's interests and nor will it deal with the significant impacts being tethered to a broken Westminster have on Scottish families and our economy. Yet it is has become a favourite party trick of those who do not support Scottish Independence.

In this week's episode of Scotland's Choice, we explore the Devo Max question.

Joining Drew to chat all things Devo Max is SNP Stalwart, Peter Wishart MP, the SNP Westminster Deputy Leader Kirsten Oswald MP and No to Yes Campaigner, Michael Sturrock.

Drew sits down with Aberdeen Independence Movement organisers Fatima Joji, Theo Forbes and North East MSP Gillian Martin in this Yes Places series episode of Scotland's Choice.

The guests share their views on the opportunities ahead for Scotland as an independent nation, and we hear more about their thoughts on the work ahead of us to pave the way for a future Yes Vote.

Theo, Fatima, and other grassroots activists set up the Aberdeen Independence Movement (AIM) to do just this. It is great to hear them talk passionately about how the local independence movement works together to help shape the debate and encourage positive change campaigning. While Gillian offers some fantastic insights into how the work of the Scottish Parliament is shaping the views of the independence debate on the world stage.

Naturally, with both Gillian and Fatima’s extensive work on women for independence, Drew discusses with them the impacts of policies like Scotland’s world-leading legislation to tackle period poverty and the effects of Westminster policies on women and the independence movement.

In this Yes Places episode, Gillian, Theo and Fatima all touch on the unique challenges people living in the North-East face, including the opportunities that lie ahead for the region, the difficulties the area faces and what this means for support for independence.

Theo and Fatima also get us all caught up on the forthcoming Aberdeen Independence Movement (AIM) conference, which seems like an event not to be missed. We hope it is the first of many independence movement events to come.

According to UN analysis early this year, at the current rate, gender equality in the highest positions of power will not be reached for another 130 years.

This shows just how much work is needed to create more gender-balanced and better functioning governance around the world.

Here in Scotland, we have a gender-balanced cabinet and a female First Minister and a female Finance Secretary, but we know there is still much work to be done to level the playing field.

In this episode, Drew talks to Hannah Bardell, MP for Livingston and Sally Donald, Edinburgh Central SNP Women’s Officer about their thoughts on the role of women in politics, the challenges they face and how we go about encouraging more women to get involved in campaigning and front line politics.

Polling post-referendum in 2014 indicate that women were decisive in delivering a No vote, with 57 per cent voting No, while 53 per cent of men voted Yes. Hannah, Sally, and Drew discuss changing attitudes and looking ahead to the next Independence Referendum how women are helping shape the debate.

During their discussion with Drew, both Hannah and Sally talk about the challenges that face women entering politics from a grassroots level and putting themselves forward for election and political life. Their insights into the challenges women face and the benefits of more people-centric policies are thoughtful and well worth a listen.

With Alyn Smith MP, and Yes Stirling activists Greg and Gerry.

A view from Stirling.

In this episode, the first of our Yes Places series, Drew talks with members of the Stirling independence movement about their activism, their views on the route to Independence and the relationship between grassroots activism and political representation.

Local Yes teams were at the heart of the last independence campaign, and they will be even more crucial for the next one, so we want to hear from those working day in day out in local communities to deliver a decisive yes vote – and the series begins with Yes Places: A View from Stirling

Alyn Smith is the MP for Stirling and represented Scotland in Europe from 2004 to 2019 as a Member of the European Parliament. Throughout this time, he forged close working relationships with his European counterparts. His closing remarks in the EU Parliament resonated with people across Scotland; when speaking of Scotland, he asked European colleagues to 'leave a light on so we can find our way home."

Also joining Drew for this episode Yes Places: A View from Stirling are Gerry and Greg, two Yes Stirling campaigning stalwarts.

Gerry and Greg epitomise all that is great about grassroots campaigning. Not only are they dedicated campaigners in Stirling, but they also promote the benefits of Independence only through the YES STIRLING social media handle. They are also well known in the independence movement for creating fantastic independence videos, which have been shared far and wide on social media.

Gerry and Greg, along with Alyn, share their hopes for a better Scotland and their thoughts on the opportunities that lie ahead for an independent Scotland. It is an enjoyable conversation and certainly not to be missed.

Few areas of policy were more divisive in the lead up to the 2014 Independence Referendum than Pensions. People were told repeatedly that one of the most significant risks of independence was losing pension security and the infamous ‘triple lock’. We know this issue was hugely influential in shaping the views of older voters who naturally were concerned about the perceived risk to their pension contributions.

Roll on to 2021, and almost every protection voters were promised by Better Together campaigners have been dismantled – including the promise of triple-lock pensions which the UK Tory Government intends to suspend in 2022.

In this episode, Drew talks with SNP Westminster Group Leader Ian Blackford to discuss how the debate around pensions has shaped since the referendum. They discuss the impact of pensions policy on people living in Scotland and discuss the issues facing women born in the 1950s. Many people will be familiar with the WASPI campaign against this injustice. Ian and Drew discuss how the UK Government could and should have made different decisions to support women affected by these changes.

People living in Scotland rightly want to know that the pensions they have paid into all their working lives are in safe hands. It is a subject that will dominate the debate ahead of the next referendum, making this episode is a must-listen for campaigners.

Twelve-month waits for payment, a culture of suspicion, punishing bureaucracy are just some of the features of the UK Social Security system people living with disabilities face.

In this episode, Drew chats to Councillor Laura Brennan-Whitefield, a SNP Councillor for North Ayr, a mother, a disabilities campaigner, a trekie and someone who lives with a disability.

Laura, who has lived with Multiple Sceloris for 14 years, believes an Independent Scotland offers the opportunity to build a system that treats people fairly, with dignity and respect. Something she believes is very different to what is on offer under the UK system.

Across the UK, people living with disabilities face a rigid social security system that doesn’t consider their condition, their individual needs and, for some, even prevents them from working. Instead of recognising the contribution disabled people can have in our society, the current social security system under the UK Government goes to battle with people who need support. The sheer rate of applications for support overturned on appeal shows just how broken the system is.

In contrast, with its limited powers – a mere 15% of all social security powers, the Scottish Parliament has shown that it can be done differently. By putting fairness and dignity at the heart of social security, we have the opportunity to support disabled people to live their very best lives.

Laura shares her thoughts on how this approach to social security impacts views on independence and how she believes an independent Scotland will better serve people living with disabilities.

When we think of politics we probably think of the grand halls of Westminster Palace or the postmodern structure of the Scottish Parliament. With that, we also likely think of key political figures in the main parties. The First Minister, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Presiding Officer. Cast your mind back to the 2014 referendum, which figures stand out? Probably high-profile people such as Alex Salmond, Alistair Darling, Nicola Sturgeon, Ruth Davidson etc. But it was in the grassroots in which the bulk of the work was done.

The leaders' debates in 2014 did very little to change people's minds. Of course, they served a purpose, but a major swing wasn't recorded after any event of this nature. What was recorded, however, is the polling on opinions on independence in the run-up to the 2014 referendum. In January 2012, 32% of people polled supported independence. This rose to 45% in the final vote. Many factors were at play, but the activists pounding the streets and knocking on doors certainly did a lot to change people's minds.

Here, we've assembled a group of 3 activists from different walks of life and from different parts of the country to explain why activism is so important. How can one get involved in signing up? What's it like the first time you knock on someone's door? How do you politely disagree with folk? And, most importantly, how can this brand of grassroots activism win people over? All of these issues are discussed in Part 2 of this special episode of Scotland's Choice.

Wellbeing is something we're all a lot more in tune with today. And there is a growing number of people who support the idea of a well-being economy - one that promotes looking after individuals and the environment. To discuss the (not so new) idea, Ariane Burgess, Green MSP for the Highlands and Islands Region, joins host Drew Hendry MP.

Much of today's economic measures are focused on tracking GDP and pursuing a "growth at any cost" model. But, while, of course, GDP is necessary to take into account, it should not be considered the be-all and end-all of how well a country is performing. Bobby Kennedy said in 1968, during his presidential campaign, "GDP measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile". So, the idea of GDP not being the sole measure of a national economy is hardly a new one.

Schemes such as a 4-day working week are proposed in Scotland. With the most obvious of advantages being an increase in individuals' wellbeing, we also see economic benefits too. So, it's a win-win. People are more productive when they are happier and looked after.

A wellbeing economy is not just for people though. The philosophy also encompasses green initiatives. A thriving natural environment promotes sustainable economic growth as well as increased happiness in citizens.

Listen to all of the above and much more on this fascinating episode of Scotland's Choice.

So where has the UK lost its way with regards to trade? What's changed in recent years that's had such a disastrous effect?

Stewart Hosie MP has been MP for Dundee East since 2005. Now serving as the SNP's Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office, he previously covered International Trade for the SNP at Westminster - a position our host Drew Hendry MP now holds. When discussing Scotland's trade, these two have years of experience on the matter and are well versed in the arguments and finer details to be considered.

Since Brexit, the UK has struggled to establish trade deals with countries around the world. This scramble for finding such deals has led to sub-par deals being accepted. Look no further than the recently signed deal with New Zealand which is actually expected to shrink the UK economy.

There is also the important issue of morality and ethics to consider. Present UK law allows the country to trade with regimes accused of committing genocide. Is that something we really want to be a part of?

So how could Scotland fare better as an independent country? You'll have to listen to this week's episode to find out!

Grassroots activism has an extremely important part to play in politics. When we think of politics we probably think of the grand halls of Westminster Palace or the postmodern structure of the Scottish Parliament. With that, we also likely think of key political figures in the main parties. The First Minister, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Presiding Officer.

And, most importantly, how can this brand of activism win people over? All of these issues are discussed in this special episode of Scotland's Choice. Part 2 will be released in a few weeks' time.

The Just Transition. Everyone will have heard the phrase, and many will have at least a vague idea of the meaning behind it. But, looking in-depth and in specific terms, what do politicians mean when they talk about it?

Stephen Flynn MP is the SNP's Energy spokesperson at Westminster and so is well-versed in the subject of the Just Transition. In this episode of Scotland's Choice he and host Drew Hendry MP discuss why this area of policy is important.

In short, the just transition means the process of moving away from dependency on fossil fuels towards renewables. Crucially, though, this must be done in a just manner, one that minimises job losses and economic damage. We have seen a transition before, but it was anything but just. In the second half of the 20th century, coal mines were rapidly shut down leaving workers out of a job and leading to an unemployment crisis.

Not only is Stephen the SNP's Energy Spokesperson, he represents a constituency that relies on us getting this transition right - Aberdeen South. Aberdeen and its surrounding areas have, for decades, benefitted from Scotland's offshore resources. Proponents of the just transition argue that these jobs do need to be lost when we stop drilling for oil. There will be a huge demand for jobs in the renewables sector, we just have to provide the training to reskill these critical workers. And the work has already started. 87% of workers that have been signed up to the Scottish Government's Just Transition Training programme have been successfully retrained - it can be done.

The UK Government is dragging its heels on the matter. And promises made after the 2014 referendum are already being broken. Just look at the funding promised for the carbon capture facility in the North East.

There is much more detail and discussion in the full episode, listen now!

Scotland's land is one of our greatest assets in so many ways, but decades and even centuries of mismanagement have held Scotland back.

Rob Gibson was an MSP in the Highlands for 13 years and served as convener of the Rural Affairs, Climate Change, and Environment committee. A well-respected author, Rob has written many books about Scotland's land and the reform it so desperately needs.

83% of Scotland’s population currently live in 2% of the land mass. This has led to a huge imbalance and vast areas of Scotland are occupiable yet unoccupied. Conversely, densely populated areas struggle with overpopulation. So, what can be done to help fix this?

The Scottish Government's Land Reform (Scotland) Act has strengthened rights across the board. As a result, communities now have new routes to purchase land for sustainable development via ‘Community Right to Buy’.

Evidence shows that when communities are given more power over the decisions being made locally to them they flourish, and residents become more engaged and involved. This is why independence matters. Scotland needs the full powers to control the land here in Scotland.

This is just a brief summation of Rob's points he puts across in this podcast. Listen to the full episode now.

Jenny Gilruth MSP has been the MSP for Mid-Fife and Glenrothes since 2016, serving in the Scottish Government's justice and education committees. Now, she serves as our minister for Culture, Europe and International Development in Holyrood.

In 2014, the Better Together campaign infamously told Scotland that the only way to guarantee EU membership was to vote No. Many Scots who voted No cited this reason as the main reason for doing so. But, less than two years after the Independence Referendum, we had a referendum on EU membership. Fast forward a few years after that and we're outside of the EU.

So, how exactly is this a big loss to Scotland? Many people will be aware of the single market, freedom of movement of goods and people etc. But what other examples of positive European influence can we point to? And how would rejoining benefit Scotland? Would we even be able to rejoin?

Take the ERASMUS scheme, for example. Many think of the opportunities it provided to students, both Scottish and European, but it also enriched many local communities within Scotland due to the associated immigration, argues Jenny. This, in turn, led to a more vibrant society. Sadly, the effects of Brexit mean much of this is being undone.

We're now out of the EU and all the major Westminster parties (bar the SNP) have abandoned the campaign to rejoin. This means the only way to get our membership back is to become an independent country. But how likely is it that we'd be accepted back in? Jenny makes the point that many European diplomats have gone on the record and spoken very favourably of Scotland's chances.

And we're not the only ones that would benefit from Scotland rejoining. European countries stand to gain a compassionate, outward-looking ally in the event of Scotland becoming a member state in our own right.

Listen to all of the above and much more on this week's episode of Scotland's Choice.

Joining Scotland's Choice host this week is Michelle Thomson MSP. Currently the MSP for Falkirk East, she previously represented Edinburgh West in Westminster and also held the brief of Business, Innovation, and Skills for the SNP.

During the 2014 referendum, business and the economy were, and remain, a huge part of the argument for independence. A lot has also changed since 2014. So, Michelle talks us through what has changed and how that makes a significant difference to the arguments.

Of course, one of the biggest differences is Brexit and the subsequent fallout and damage that's been done. Unionists argue that erect another border between Scotland and England would damage business and cross-border trade. In truth, most of Scotland's exports across the UK are service products. The majority of our physical exports go to the EU and elsewhere.

In fact, after rejoining the EU as an independent state, Scotland could attract more businesses due to the access to single-market and close proximity to the UK. It's always important to remember how independence will be a benefit to Scotland, as well as thinking of how we overcome the challenges that will be presented.

During the first referendum, businesses were largely very wary of independence. Since then, however, they've come round to the idea and see the benefits it could bring them.

Michelle discusses all of the above and more on Episode 24 of the Scotland's Choice Podcast.

In this episode of Scotland's Choice, Drew sits down with Gavin Newlands MP to discuss all things Transport.

Transport plays a huge part in all of our lives. Whether it's commuting to working, travelling for a holiday or supermarket supply chains, transport plays a vital role in modern life. SNP transport spokesperson Gavin Newlands MP joins host Drew Hendry MP on this episode of Scotland's Choice. They discuss the current state of affairs in Scotland as part of the UK, and what we could do differently as an independent country.

At the time of recording and publishing, the UK is experiencing a critical shortage of HGV drivers. This is affecting supply chains across the board. From supermarkets to petrol stations, we are experiencing shortages of everyday necessities, something the UK Government promised us wouldn't happen. So why has this happened? And was the government warned about this prior to Brexit happening?

Transport, of course, is more than just lorry driving. Many of us travel to work every day and rely on the infrastructure of roads and rails. So why have successive UK Governments neglected to invest in these areas? The dualling of the A9 wasn't going to happen until the Scottish Government stepped in, for example, and the rail network (which is reserved to Westminster) is decades behind our European neighbours. The UK is investing billions of pounds into HS2. A project which, in its current proposed iteration will start in London and finish in Birmingham. A project which won't benefit Scotland in any meaningful sense.

Electric vehicles are clearly the transport of the future. The price is on a downward trajectory and will soon be the norm and Scotland must be ready for this. The Scottish Government has already invested in a vast charging network to make electronic cars and vans more viable. In addition, the Scottish Government's interest-free loans of up to £30,000 when buying an electronic car far outdo the UK's offer, which has halved in recent years. Can the Tories really say they care about the environment when they are cutting grants and loans for electronic vehicle ownership, and inhibiting investment in rail outside of HS2?

Drew sits down with activist, Charlotte Armitage to discuss the role of young people in the independence movement.

Young people are a key part of the independence movement. One of the strengths of the 2014 Yes campaign's was the grassroots element, and young people were front and centre.

The YSI is the SNP's youth wing and all members under 30 are automatically enrolled. Charlotte Armitage serves as the vice convener and is passionate about climate justice, equality for all, and fighting for independence.

These issues are not unique to Charlotte. Young people up and down the country care deeply about the climate crisis. And it is not an exaggeration to say that it is the most serious issue we face as a species and it is the future generations that will pay the price for any inaction now.

Likewise, equality is deeply important to people of all ages, but particularly to our young people here in Scotland. Because of this, many of the YSI policies they push for have this motive at their heart and they have enjoyed some success lately in getting these adopted.

The UK's current welfare system discriminates against the young. And many find themselves out of work, living on their own, and unable to access vital payments. This isn't fair or just but under Westminster, we don't have the powers to change this.

Scotland's media came under much scrutiny in the run-up to the first independence referendum in 2014. John Nicolson MP is SNP spokesperson for Digital, Media, Culture, and Sport.

Scotland's national broadcaster in the UK is the BBC. Studies have shown they protected union representatives during the campaign and disproportionately weighted the argument in their favour. This isn't appropriate for an institution that, by definition, is supposed to be impartial. Privately, John says, the BBC apologised and admitted they got it wrong. What can we expect this time around?

Do the political debates serve a purpose and are our leaders held to account as well as they should be. John would like to see the return of long-form political interviews from the likes of Paxman and Neil who, whatever their politics, ensure they interview everyone fairly and robustly.

On print media, so many of our newspapers in Scotland are owned by the few. The National is the only major newspaper in Scotland to support independence when polls currently show there to be a 50/50 split in the general population. How can this be right?

And what of the musicians who relied so heavily on the European touring market? In the wake of Brexit, they face extortionate visa fees, and the haulage companies crucial to the operation are in trouble too.

Listen to John's take on all of this, and more, on this episode of Scotland's Choice.

Drew sits down with Angus Robertson MSP to discuss Scotland's relationship with artic neighbours.

Scotland is the world's northernmost country which isn't technically in the Arctic region. After independence, therefore, it is vital that we look to our Arctic neighbours and form real and lasting partnerships with them. There's also a lot that we can learn from these countries, as we are doing already with policies such as the Baby Box being inspired by the likes of Finland. It's clear that we share many of the same values with many of our close neighbours.

After a distinguished career in international journalism, Angus Robertson MSP worked in the Scottish Parliament as an expert advisor before being elected to the House of Commons where he served for 16 years, including 10 as the SNP's Westminster group leader. He now represents the Scottish Parliament constituency of Edinburgh Central and serves in the Scottish Government as the Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture.

Our current welfare system in Scotland is, for the most part, controlled by Westminster. The UK lags behind many small, progressive countries in all aspects of social security. Whilst Scandinavian countries, for example, lead the way. We face a choice on which system we wish to model ourselves on.

Independence would give us the opportunity to collaborate with our like-minded Arctic neighbours on things like renewable energy and technological improvements, something which the UK Government has stopped us from doing thus far.

Listen now to become informed on all of the above and more.

Feminist foreign policy is the topic we're covering this week on Scotland's Choice podcast.

Joining host Drew Hendry MP, is one of the leading voices in the matter, Prof. Caron E. Gentry. Caron is currently a Professor in the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews. Her main research focuses on gender and terrorism as well as feminist political theology. Her interest in Feminist Foreign Policy stems from her work on theology, particularly as it pertains to hopeful practices.

The influence that feminism can have on policies, both domestic and foreign, should not be underestimated. This idea is not a new one by any means. Sweden has adopted an approach that is a step in the right direction, but Caron makes the point that most feminists say it doesn't go far enough.

So, what's the difference between the current patriarchal system, and that of a feminist foreign policy. Caron argues that instead of treating economics as a competition, it becomes more collaborative. And instead of being isolationist, typically you see a desire to become more cosmopolitan and supportive of refugees.

So, where does this leave boys and men? The idea of a feminist foreign policy isn't about excluding those who don't identify as women from policymaking. Rather, it chooses to prioritise collaborative effort, among other things, ahead of traditional, masculine posturing.

An important question to consider is can a feminist foreign policy help an Independent Scotland lead on a global stage with greater empathy and open-mindedness? Caron says that independence brings an opportunity for Scotland to reinvent itself and choose different priorities than the ones imposed on us by Westminster currently. A good example of this would be Scotland choosing not to spend billions of pounds on weapons of mass destruction.

Ruaridh was very much involved with the Better Together campaign in 2014 but has since changed his mind and now supports independence. In this episode, Drew chats to Ruaridh about why he voted No in 2014 and what made him change his mind.

It shouldn't really come as a surprise that Brexit is mentioned time and time again in these sorts of conversations. Not only were Scotland's votes ignored in the referendum itself, but Scotland's voice has been ignored throughout the negotiations and as a result, we're suffering. The Better Together campaign explicitly stated in 2014 that a vote for Yes would take us out of Europe. Now we know that a Yes vote would have been the only possible way to remain a part of the EU.

So, does Ruaridh regret voting No. He makes the point that, after moving from No to Yes and with the benefit of hindsight, he would vote differently. But realistically, no one has a crystal ball to tell what the future will bring and he says he doesn't regret feeling the way he did.

Going forward, it's vital that the Yes movement is welcoming to folk like Ruaridh. People making the journey from No to Yes are vital to the numbers game of winning the next vote and online abuse risks putting them off. Indeed, we must be careful not to stray into infighting between ourselves as Ruaridh makes the point that this too will put people off engaging with the campaign.

Ruaridh featured in a recent PPB by the SNP titled Change Must Come. In that piece, he said the line "an independent Scotland could be whatever the people of Scotland want it to be." The point he was making is that a vote for independence should not be considered as a vote for the SNP. The Scottish electorate could vote in any government they like post-independence - the point is, it will be a government directly and wholly elected to govern for Scotland, by Scotland.

This is the second part of Drew's conversation with Andrew on the financial case for independence.

If you haven't already listened to part one, we recommend you do so before listening to this episode.

Andrew is one of the leading voices when discussing the financial aspect of independence. His CV shows an economist who is both well respected, and clearly knowledgable about the economics of independence in particular after chairing the Growth Commission report, completed in 2018. Initially, this episode was planned to be one episode of regular length. However, it quickly became apparent to Drew that the conversation was going so well that it wouldn't be right to cut it short.

So, what is the financial case for independence? Roger Mullin pointed out in a previous episode, perhaps the question should be "what is the price of dependence?" Brexit has caused many issues for the UK, not least Scotland, and 62% of Scottish voters voted to remain. With so many businesses in Scotland relying on trade with EU countries, the financial case here is pretty certain. Brexit is damaging businesses and rejoining the EU is in the best interests of the Scottish people. But how easy would it be to rejoin? Much is said about Scotland's 'deficit', currency issues, and so on, Andrew explains why it would be a much more simple process.

Another financial argument often made by unionists is that the pensions of those who have retired in Scotland would be at risk. Andrew outline why exactly this is not true, as well as making the point that the UK state pension is currently the worst in Europe. So, contrary to trying to protect it, we should be trying to better it.

Drew is joined by Economist and former MSP Andrew Wilson to discuss the financial case for independence.

Following on from the round-up compilation specials, we're back to new content this week. Economist and former MSP Andrew Wilson joins Drew to discuss the financial case for independence. This conversation was so interesting that we've split it into two parts as we didn't want to cut anything out.

When talking about the benefits that independence could bring for us, it's also important to acknowledge the challenges. It's important that we level with folk we engage with that there will be some unknowns and some obstacles along the way. That being said, there is a clear financial case for independence. We shouldn't feel embarrassed or shy about talking Scotland up, as the figures are clear and back it up. Early on in this episode, Andrew makes the point that, if Scotland were to become independent today, we would be the richest country in history to become independent.

Currency is a point that comes up time and time again. Andrew makes the point that the economy is a much bigger issue to be debated than currency. When Ireland gained independence, the focus was not on currency but on a strong economy. They tethered their own currency to the pound for some time before deciding to adopt the Euro. The SNP's policy is to use the pound for a period of time and work towards establishing our own Scottish currency in the future.

Sticking with Ireland as an example, 60%-70% of their trade was with the UK when they became independent. Since joining the EU it's dropped to 10%. We could find ourselves in a similar position which is why EU membership would be much more valuable to Scotland than remaining in the UK.

It's crucial we get these arguments right and that we have an open and honest discussion with each other. Hopefully, this episode and part two will enable you to get informed and take part in a more meaningful way.

Part Two of a Compilation of Scotland's Choice.

Following on from last week's episode, we're continuing with a selection of Scotland's Choice so far. With 13 episodes worth of content to choose from, it's not an easy task to pick standout moments for an episode such as this. The thinking was to condense some of the topics down into bitesize chunks alongside other clips. This makes for a great starter episode for first-time listeners. We'd encourage you to show this episode (along with Part One) to people who may not be aware of this podcast.

Kicking things off in the second round-up so far special is Michael Sturrock. Michael voted No in the 2014 referendum but has since changed his mind. He founded the website NoToYes.vote last year, and shares, with Drew, his reasons for voting No and what's changed. Leading on from that, Drew asks Michael how he thinks we should engage with so-called soft no voters and how we help change their minds.

From one Michael to another, the second guest on this special is SNP party president, Mike Russell. Mike's recently been named the director of the SNP's independence unit and so is one of the best people to talk to with regards to the upcoming campaigns. In particular, he gives his thoughts on what to expect from the Westminster-driven unionist campaign.

Then, we have an excerpt from the discussion between Drew and guests Alison Thewliss MP and Roger Mullin. The entirety of Episode 10 is well worth a listen if you haven't already had the chance to do so. The clip we've chosen for this compilation of Scotland's Choice so far is a segment on currency. Namely, what would happen post-independence, and are some of the arguments around it just myths?

Finally, Deidre Brock MP gives her views on the UK Government's attitude to climate change and the upcoming COP26 conference. As well as this, Drew asks her what Scotland's ambitions are for renewables. As SNP's COP26 Spokesperson and SNP Spokesperson for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, she has a few things to say!

Of course, the clips in this round-up of Scotland's Choice so far don't exhaust the arguments. Far from it. We'd recommend you go back to the source episodes and listen in for the full discussion if you've been interested in anything the guests had to say.

Part One of a Compilation of Scotland's Choice.

This week's episode is a round-up of some of the best bits of Scotland's Choice so far. With 13 episodes worth of content to choose from, it's not an easy task to pick standout moments for an episode such as this. The thinking was to condense some of the topics down into bitesize chunks alongside other clips. This makes for a great starter episode for first-time listeners. We'd encourage you to show this episode to people who may not be aware of the podcast.

Kicking things off in the first round-up special is David Linden MP. David was the first guest in this iteration of Scotland's Choice, and in the clip featured in this episode, he outlines exactly how the Scottish Government has a mandate to hold a referendum on independence.

Then we move onto former MP Stephen Gethins. He sets out how the UK Government tends to be reluctant to praise the devolved nations on the international stage. This sentiment is echoed by Liz Saville-Roberts MP, who says that Wales is very much in the same boat as Scotland regarding treatment from Westminster.

When Alan Brown MP appeared as a guest, he made the point that the UK Government relies on rhetoric rather than long-term planning and action to support Scotland's renewable energy sector.

Finally, in part one of the round-up, Drew discusses nuclear weapons with Brendan O'Hara MP and Anne Ballinger of the Scottish CND. Opinion polls show that Scotland does not want nuclear weapons on the Clyde. Brendan and Anne look at the moral and economic arguments for disarmament.

Of course, the clips in this round-up don't exhaust the arguments. Far from it. We'd recommend you go back to the source episodes and listen in for the full discussion if you've been interested in anything the guests had to say.

In this episode of Scotland's Choice Podcast, host Drew Hendry MP is joined by the leader of Plaid Cymru's Westminster Group.

Together they discuss the common ground between the independence movements of Scotland and Wales.

Advocates of independence for Scotland and Wales share many of the same concerns regarding the current Westminster political system. For example, Wales's representation in terms of MPs will be cut following the planned boundary changes.

The people of Wales have become more politically engaged in recent years. This has led to an increase in support for Welsh Independence with a poll earlier in the year showing support at 39%. In many ways, this is similar to the people of Scotland. Holyrood election turnout is rising and support for independence has remained consistently high since the ramifications of Brexit were made clear.

But there's more to the respective Independence movements than grievances. Having the power to make the important decisions at home would lead to a better future for our nations.

The writing may be on the wall for the Union. Labour First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford has stated that the state of the union has never been so fragile. Whilst Labour sees Scotland and Wales as key to their electoral success in Westminster, the Tories seem to have different reasons for wanting to maintain the status quo of the UK. Both the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg have made remarks stating that "devolution was a mistake" and that we must "undo devolution". Absolute power is a must for them. Is that something that Scotland and Wales really want to be a part of?

Listen to Drew and Liz discuss all of the above and much more in Episode 13 of Scotland's Choice.

In 2014, Michael Sturrock voted No in the Scottish Independence Referendum.

But he, like many others, has since changed his mind and now campaigns for Independence. Then, in late 2020, he founded the NoToYes.vote website. It shares the stories of people with similar experiences of moving from No to Yes. This makes Michael the perfect guest for the first in an ongoing series of 'No to Yes' episodes of Scotland's Choice.

The most obvious question when speaking to someone who has made the journey from No to Yes is "Why did you vote no?" Then, "why did you change your mind?" It's no surprise that the promises made around EU membership and the subsequent breaking of these promises are a focal point for Michael.

Part of the reasoning for setting NoToYes.vote was to give those who transitioned from No to Yes an opportunity to make their voices heard. He hoped that this will help muster more confidence in those who are struggling with changing their mind. Drew discussed this with Michael in the podcast, as a key part of winning the next referendum is changing minds. The maths don't add up without this happening.

How do we engage with soft no voters?

Should we rush into a referendum?

Is federalism really an option?

All of the above and more are points of discussion this week.

In this episode of Scotland's Choice, Drew sits down with Mike Russell and outlines the road to independence and what it looks like.

Mike is former Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, Europe and External Affairs, President of the SNP, a professor of culture and governance, and author of numerous books. He has recently been appointed head of the SNP's Independence Unit and so is the perfect man to discuss what's next for independence supporters.

We've all heard the line "you had a vote in 2014, you don't need another one." One of the first points that Drew and Mike touch on is in direct response to this - why do we need another independence referendum and what's changed since 2014?

The SNP and its leadership have been accused by some in the movement of not moving fast enough. When is the right time to hold another vote?

Can Boris Johnson really continue denying Scotland's right to choose?

Is there really a fresh, positive case for the Union? Or will it be a predictable rehash of Project Fear?

How important is it that the Yes movement is unified?

In this episode, Drew is joined by Alison & Roger to discuss Scotland's Finances.

During the 2014 referendum, much was made of Scotland's finances by the Unionist campaigners. We all heard the arguments asserting that Scotland is subsidised by Westminster, we are too reliant on oil, and, perhaps most prominently, that we didn't have a clue when it came to currency.

These points are discussed (and ultimately proved wrong) in many episodes of Scotland's Choice. In this episode, for example, Drew outlines that the SNP's policy on currency is to introduce a new Scottish currency when the time is right (though, that will be a matter for the new, democratically elected Government of an Independent Scotland to decide).

Roger raises the important counterargument to the question "can Scotland afford to be independent?" - "can Scotland afford to continue being dependent?"

The fact of the matter is this - once a country has gained independence, it has never gone back into the union which it left. There are many reasons for this which vary from country to country, but economics play a huge part in making that decision. Economic power is most effectively wielded by those who seek to benefit from it, so it makes sense that Scotland should be able to have full control over our finances.

Many of those opposing Independence claim that Scotland, as a new member of the EU would be forced to adopt the Euro as its currency. This too is false - many members of the EU do not use the Euro including member states who joined after the Euro was introduced.

Other aspects of Scotland's Finances that are discussed include tax, spending, natural resources, and more.

Disinformation and Fake News - what is it and why is it important? At the time of publishing, Stewart has just published a report on Disinformation in Scotland (can be accessed here).

What exactly is ‘Fake News’? Most people will likely associate the term with President Trump and his attacks on the US and global media. But, as Stewart explains, it’s a far bigger problem than just the former POTUS.

You’ve probably heard stories in the news about Russia, and more recently Iran, interfering in other countries’ democratic exercises? Is this an issue for Scotland? Would it still be an issue if we were independent?

With disinformation being so rife in the world and being intrinsically linked to cyber warfare, can we afford to sit back and do nothing? And if it’s the most prevalent threat we face from rogue states, then shouldn’t we be investing money to defend against that rather than spending hundreds of billions of pounds on nuclear weapons that will never be used?

All of these questions and more are answered in Episode 9 of Scotland's Choice.

Nation to Nation is a book written by former MP for North East Fife, Stephen Gethins.

Brexit has changed the argument surrounding independence since 2014. The UK has isolated itself from its closest neighbours in deeply damaging ways,. What would the benefits be to re-joining the EU, and would Scotland be able to re-join?Scotland has had a foreign policy for hundreds of years, but what would an independent Scotland seek to do differently than what is being done right now? How would Scotland's place in the world change as a result of independence?

Stephen suggests that we must embrace the bad times in our history as well as good - its led Scotland to where we are today. With that in mind, do we, as a nation, have the collective resources to become a force for good in the world?

Similar sized countries to Scotland have become great diplomats, is multilateralism the way forward for an independent Scotland?

Essentially, we ask: who and what is Scotland? Are we happy with Scotland's place in the world or would we rather choose a different path?

Scotland's place in the world is up for debate as we prepare for another independence referendum, Stephen and Drew will provide you with the arguments you need to bring about the outcome we all want.

Host Drew Hendry MP is joined by Deidre Brock MP to discuss COP26

Scotland was one of the first countries in the world, and the first in the UK, to declare a climate emergency. This is all the more important, as a recent report published by Oxfam shows that climate change will result in an economic loss double that of covid-19 in GDP terms.

The Institute for Economics and Peace also warns that the climate crisis is on course to displace more than 1.2 billion people by 2050, it’s clearer than ever before that climate change is the single biggest threat to life as we know it and urgent action must be taken.

COP26 comes to Glasgow this November and, despite hosting the event in our largest city, Scotland doesn't have an independent voice at the conference. Instead, we will be represented by figures appointed by the Tories in Westminster.

The G7 have promised further action on climate change, but do they go far enough? The conservatives response to climate change in the past has been lacklustre at best, is there any evidence of that changing?

And, most importantly of all, what would Scotland do differently? We have been at the forefront of technological innovations for hundreds of years, is it now time that we lead the way in advancing renewables?

Scotland's social security ambitions are the theme for episode 6 in which Drew is joined by Neil Gray MSP.

These changes are critical to a healthy society involving people and communities in setting their future. The UK's choice, through Westminster, to pursue an austerity agenda has undoubtedly harmed people across society.

Many people fell through the system both before and during the pandemic. They didn’t have to. Westminster doesn't listen or learn when told of the needs of people in Scotland.

It's a failure of the UK's social security system that we now have a growing network of foodbanks across the nations of the UK. Poverty is a political choice. The UK has decided that it wants to live with it. Scotland is increasingly demonstrating that it does not.

The Scottish Government's very different approach is to treat people with fairness and dignity with the very limited powers it does have, and the Social Justice Commission shows how we could take that further, starting the debate on our future on how we take the decisions that will matter.

This is critical as we emerge from the pandemic and plan and pursue our recovery. If the UK Government had listened at the start of the pandemic about a Universal Basic income, nobody would have been left behind. Now, new policy needs to be built, with those who most need, most use, and have greatest experience of the services that need to be provided to get those things right.

We are making a difference through devolved powers but could do so much more. In some years, since devolution, Scotland has built more homes, in total - not just per head - than in England, this helps to reduce poverty and increase health outcomes. In no small part, due to this approach, Scotland now has a lower poverty rate than England and Wales.

Ending the Tory 'right to buy' scheme in Scotland has protected social housing stock and allowed nearly 100,000 affordable homes to be built and, going forward, the SNP Scottish government has pledged that another 70% of the additional 100,000 new affordable homes to be built in the next ten years will be for the social rented sector.

Community Ownership is transformational and there are numerous successful examples, but this too, is held back. To be taken forward with the ambition it deserves, we need the additional powers across government that also allow us to harness the revenue from it. That only comes with independence.

The UK's 'Hostile Environment' immigration policy is harmful to Scotland, and it needs to end, for all our sakes. To meet Scotland's demographic, social and economic needs, we need a tailored immigration policy of our own.

In conclusion, there is no chance of Westminster taking the steps that we would need to move to a progressive, well- being economy, it could only happen through Independence.

Scotland and Westminster. Making very different choices.

In this episode of Scotland's Choice, Drew is joined by Ann Ballinger of the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Brendan O'Hara MP, whose constituency includes Faslane and Coulport, as they discuss the nuclear weapons housed in Scotland by Westminster and their decision to break the nonproliferation treaty, which has stopped the nuclear arms race, by vowing to increase the number of Warheads at the Clyde bases.

Ann and Brendan lay out the dangers of nuclear weapons, the safety failures, the worrying plans to downgrade fire protection, and, crucially, what an Independent Scotland could use its part of the estimated up £205bn on instead. The sums involved could be invested in housing, hospitals, schools, teachers, nurses, investing in our economy, and a green recovery.

We'll also hear how even a change of Westminster Government makes no difference as the Labour Party describe their own commitment to these weapons of mass destruction as "unshakeable".

What difference does it make, how does being in the UK restrict us and what would we do differently if Independent? These are just some of the questions posed to Stuart C McDonald MP, SNP Shadow to the UK Tory Home Secretary, Priti Patel in this episode of Scotland's Choice podcast.

Recent events have also highlighted the treatment of refugees and those people who have escaped persecution and possible death to seek asylum here. Dawn raids, detention, dormitories during the lockdown and much more. The UK Government's hostile environment immigration policy is impacting families and communities across Scotland.

Listen as Drew and Stuart bust the myth that migrants from the EU were a drain on public services, what they mean to our communities and our economy and the very different approaches taken by the Governments in Westminster and Holyrood.

Scotlands Choice:

In this episode, Drew discusses realising Scotland’s energy potential with Alan Brown MP, the SNP spokesperson on Energy and Climate Change.

Alan and Drew discuss the UK Government’s approach to energy and locking out potential opportunities. They discuss the missed opportunities and Wesminsters long-standing obsession with Nuclear power. Alan makes particular reference to the fact that words of ambition are not matched by policy at Westminster, having a significant impact on achieving climate targets.

Scotland has the largest store of renewable assets and potential across Europe. Still, with much of the energy policy set at Westminster, there are significant challenges to tapping into that potential. Naturally, Alan and Drew discuss the opportunities for Scotland as an independent country, given that energy policy is primarily reserved to Westminster.

Knowing the approach Scotland has taken to meeting the climate change challenge, what more could it do with the powers of an independent country?

The Scottish Government's commitment to tackling the climate crisis is already world-leading and as an independent country Scotland that level of ambition will only soar.

Scotland's Choice

In this second episode of Scotland’s Choice, Drew discusses the impact choices made at Westminster have on children born here and those whose home it has become with Angela Crawley, MP for Lanark and Hamilton East. Drew and Angela discuss her extensive work on child poverty and the impact of austerity policies on Scotland's children.

In contrast to the Scottish Parliament, which has legislated to eradicate child poverty and has clear measurable targets to tackle poverty, the UK Government has repealed large parts of the Child Poverty Act 2010, including income-based child poverty targets. In doing so, they have sought to remove accountability for the effect its draconian welfare policies have on children. Drew and Angela also touch on the development of the Scottish Parliament voting unanimously to place the United Nations Rights of the Child into Scots law – a move, the UK Government is shamefully challenging in the courts.

With only 15% powers, the Scottish Government has already set out a landmark legislative programme to protect Scotland’s children and tackle child poverty, but how much more could be done with all the powers of an independent country?

The pair also chat about the response from Scottish communities to the refugee crisis and how the hostile environment approach at Westminister has impacted the safety and well-being of vulnerable children. Scotland's communities showed just how welcoming a nation we are - leaving the same question we always pose, how much more could be done with the full powers of any other independent nation.

The Scottish people have returned a pro-independence majority of SNP and Green MSPs to the Scottish Parliament, providing the mandate for a new Independence Referendum. In this first episode of Scotland’s Choice, Drew discusses what this result means for the Scottish people with David Linden, the Member of Parliament for Glasgow East and SNP Spokesperson for Work & Pensions.

The election of a new Parliament in Edinburgh coincided with the Queen's speech outlining the new legislative priorities at Westminster, highlighting the sheer scale of the ever-widening gap between the priorities set in London and the values and wishes of the people of Scotland.

In his contribution to the debate on the Queen’s speech, David condemned the UK Government’s failure to bring forward an Employment Bill, pointing out that this translates no meaningful action on the catalogue of employment areas that needs urgent address. There will be no answers to the “fire and re-hire” practices employed by several high profile companies and no action on the broken, sick pay system exposed by the pandemic or the fact that 1 out of 8 UK workers lives in poverty. Drew and David discuss the impact of these decisions.
