On this episode of Scotland’s Choice, Drew is joined by polling expert and doctoral researcher Mark McGeoghegan to discuss how important good and accurate polling is in politics.
Mark has extensive experience in the polling industry and is currently working towards his PhD at the University of Glasgow, researching secessionist movements from around the world. He explains how certain issues have shifted opinions since the 2014 referendum, and offers plenty of insight into how to make sense of all the polling data.
There is also a cautionary tale from Quebec – that movement narrowly missed out on independence and became fractured, its important we don’t allow the same to happen here in Scotland. The polling results over the last couple of years seem to suggest a sustained appetite for independence and a vote so Mark makes the point that it’s important to strike while the iron is hot.
